Mackie Lake House Foundation

Angie Francis, Artist in Residence

We are excited to announce the first participant of this program is, in fact a close cousin to “Paddy Mackie.”  Angie Francis spent many summers here at Mackie Lake House as a child with her mother Liza and has brought her children back for many weekends.  Her style is light, fresh and unpredictable and yet the results are always a pleasure to view.   Angie will arrive at Mackie Lake House at the end of July.  A reception will be open to the public.

Angie Francis was born in Duncan, British Columbia  and moved to Victoria in 1960. She is a UVic graduate and has lived, studied and worked in Victoria continuously except for a short period from 1988 to 1992 during which she lived on the beautiful UBC campus.

It was in Vancouver that her first experiences with watercolor painting began. Her mother, Elizabeth Chesshire, an established Victoria watercolor artist in her own right, was instrumental in instilling the love of watercolor painting in her daughter. She provided Angie with paper, paints and inspiration and encouraged her to attend watercolor workshops in both Vancouver and Victoria.

Over the past 18 years Angie has taken many painting courses including classes with Alan Bruce and Harry Heine of Victoria, BC.  She has always had a great admiration for, and taken inspiration from, the works of Stephanie Quainton-Steel, Brian Travers-Smith and Tony Onley.
